Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
Whether we're beret-bearing beatniks or Lexus-driving cosmopolitans, road trips still beckon. Gas up the tank, load up the trunk--it's hard to resist. But who has time to waste on wrong turns, getting lost, and bad choices? When it comes to finding fun, time is of the essence, so Jamie Jensen's guide takes the pain out of the road trip, be it across the continent or a Sunday jaunt. With directions to pit stops, scenic routes, bizarre museums, and the best apple pie stands, all you have to do is drive.

Product Description
Celebrating the notion that freedom and discovery await us on the open road, this second edition of Road Trip USA lures travelers off the soulless interstates and into the world of the two-lane road with its photogenic Americana. Readers will still find the north-south Road to Nowhere; the east-west Loneliest Road; and the centerpiece Mother Road, Route 66, with directions to offbeat attractions like the neon sign collection in Iowa, the plastic wedding cake figure display in New Mexico, and the Fruitcake Capital of the World in Georgia. In addition to coverage of minor-league baseball, RVing and camping, and motorcycle touring, Jensen offers tips to the best diner apple pies, soda fountains, and out-of-the-way lodgings, and lists the call letters of lively radio stations and toll-free numbers for road conditions -- all the information readers need to create their own driving adventures.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Travel Book with a Notable Inaccuracy   December 29, 2008
Purchased this book as a gift for my husband who enjoys traveling the back roads. While thumbing through the book, we noticed an error on page 166 in an article regarding the Lewis and Clark expedition. Anyone who has ever studied history regarding Lewis and Clark and the Louisiana Purchase knows that Sgt. Floyd of the expedition died south of what is now Sioux City, Iowa, not at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Fortunately, the author has directed you to page 572 where an accurate account of the location of Sgt. Floyd's monument exists. The author does interject an opinion ocassionally describing grasslands as "yawning expanses" to which we can only add, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Overall a very nice book with some interesting sites along the way. We don't regret the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Road Trip USA: Cross-Country Adventures on America's Two-Lane Highways.   October 26, 2008
Great insight into what is on the back roads in the US. We are from Australia and planning a road trip in the South and it has been incredibly useful for helping us see the "real" America. We have done all the big cities so now we want to hear music and talk to people who are "America". This book will let us do that.

3 out of 5 stars OK minor reference   August 6, 2008
The USA is just too big to encompass in one book. Most things covered in this book can be found by searching the internet. Good reference.

5 out of 5 stars Road Trip USA - Jamie Jensen   July 2, 2008
Extensively researched and very well written - good humor makes the exhaustive details easy to read. Over the years, I have driven many of the roads travelled - and I wish I had this book with me in the past. I read through it and say "Oh yeah, now I get it" about many of the sights I have seen. Going to enjoy bringing it with me on future travels - this book gives me far greater insight than other such books I have read. Well laid out, great index and cross-references.

5 out of 5 stars An Indispensable Guide   February 25, 2008

I recently completed a series of road trips around the U.S. with one of my children. We found Road Trip USA to be an indispensable guide to each section of the country we visited. The book was full of accurate recommendations and suggestions of what to see and what to avoid.
