I love these DK Pocket Guides! November 24, 2008 These guides are amazing. If you're only going to be somewhere for a couple days, don't even bother with a proper guidebook - these hit all the highlights. Of course this is no substitution for a full guidebook, but it definitely makes for a great companion to one. Don't listen to Rick Steves - that guy has steered me wrong too many times. Never again!
The size is really nice. It might poke out of the top of a back jeans pocket, but it'll go anywhere. It's really thin - probably about 3/8" The maps are very detailed and easy to read and navigate by, and since it's so small you'll likely have it on your person and not have to go digging for it when you need those Turkish phrases.
If you're going to Istanbul and don't have this on you, you're doing yourself a huge disservice.
Pocket Map and Guide Istambul August 25, 2008 I can not make any review by the simple reason that till now I did not received the book I've bought a month ago. Regards

overall good April 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this to be a nice overview of Istanbul. However, some of the recommended restaurants/cafes were nowhere to be found, and I was surprised by some prejudiced comments in it. I would recommend Rick Steves' guide instead- it was very useful for getting the most out of a short trip as well as giving concise history/cultural info, and the DVD (which i borrowed from the library) "Hidden Turkey" was a nice overview of a few aspects of the country (agriculture, food, culture etc.)
Can't wait to use this. June 26, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Istanbul is my next travel destination. I've got all the big books, but I plan to take this one out with me day-by-day. It's got a clear, easy to read map and simple descriptions of the things I want to do. Small enough to fit into any pocket.
take it anywhere! May 16, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
So small it can fit in the smallest pocket. Gives the basics. You'll probaby want a more thorough book, but that doesn't mean that you'll want to carry a bigger book around.
