Product Description
Do you want to get ahead in life?

Climb the ladder to personal success?

The secret, master networker Keith Ferrazzi claims, is in reaching out to other people. As Ferrazzi discovered early in life, what distinguishes highly successful people from everyone else is the way they use the power of relationships—so that everyone wins.

In Never Eat Alone, Ferrazzi lays out the specific steps—and inner mindset—he uses to reach out to connect with the thousands of colleagues, friends, and associates on his Rolodex, people he has helped and who have helped him.

The son of a small-town steelworker and a cleaning lady, Ferrazzi first used his remarkable ability to connect with others to pave the way to a scholarship at Yale, a Harvard MBA, and several top executive posts. Not yet out of his thirties, he developed a network of relationships that stretched from Washington’s corridors of power to Hollywood’s A-list, leading to him being named one of Crain’s 40 Under 40 and selected as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the Davos World Economic Forum.

Ferrazzi's form of connecting to the world around him is based on generosity, helping friends connect with other friends. Ferrazzi distinguishes genuine relationship-building from the crude, desperate glad-handling usually associated with “networking.” He then distills his system of reaching out to people into practical, proven principles. Among them:

Don’t keep score: It’s never simply about getting what you want. It’s about getting what you want and making sure that the people who are important to you get what they want, too.

“Ping” constantly: The Ins and Outs of reaching out to those in your circle of contacts all the time—not just when you need something.

Never eat alone: The dynamics of status are the same whether you’re working at a corporation or attending a society event— “invisibility” is a fate worse than failure.

In the course of the book, Ferrazzi outlines the timeless strategies shared by the world’s most connected individuals, from Katherine Graham to Bill Clinton, Vernon Jordan to the Dalai Lama.

Chock full of specific advice on handling rejection, getting past gatekeepers, becoming a “conference commando,” and more, Never Eat Alone is destined to take its place alongside How to Win Friends and Influence People as an inspirational classic.

5 out of 5 stars Best Networking Advice Book   November 21, 2008
What makes Never Eat Alone different from other business books that focus on the art of networking is that Never Eat Alone includes tips and advice that are unique. I've read more than my fair share of business books, and I can say with all confidence that this one is worth the purchase. The author brings in a good deal of personal narrative and real-world examples that illustrate just how easy it is to meet people and connect. "Connect" is the operative word here, because so many other books look at meeting people as a means of getting ahead. This book goes so far as to suggest that we actually try to get to know and build relationships with others. Now if that isn't unique for a business book, I don't what is.

5 out of 5 stars Very good   October 19, 2008

All you ever need to know about networking, the value of it, some strategies and practical tools to strengthen your networking skills.

5 out of 5 stars Mandatory Reading for Self-Employed Professionals   October 8, 2008

I am a self employed entrepreneur and consultant. The life blood of my business is my network and my ability to meet the right people and keep a steady stream of referrals coming in the door. I have never met nor corresponded with Mr. Ferrazzi. Having said that I think this is a fantastic networking book and well worth your investment of time and money. Here is some of the areas I found excellent...

Conference Commando - He gives some excellent advice on how to attend conferences and make sure you meet the right people and get a lot more from the conference than simply information. Using his advice will help you walk away with knowledge and some excellent connections. If you pay to attend all of your own conferences like I do then you want to know how to make the most out of it and meet people that will help you grow your business. This chapter of his book is incredible and VERY useful if you attend conferences and trade shows.

Connecting with Connectors - This is an excellent chapter on meeting with people that are natural connectors to a vast network of individuals you might want to know and are in a position to help you. For example, PR people, journalists, and others who by virtue of their profession have the ability to connect you with a ton of excellent contacts. The concept is about meeting a few people that can magnify your network in a powerful way and open some great doors for you. I have deliberately sought out some of the people he says are super connectors and used his advice to build great relationships with them. It has shaved years off my networking efforts.

Staying Connected - Personally one of my weaknesses has been staying in touch with people after a chance meeting. Making sure they remember me when I call or email. He offers a lot of great advice on how to maintain contact and a keep in touch program he calls "pinging" which was useful.

The book is simply incredible and has a TON of other useful pieces of advice and information in it. Some of the negative reviews I have seen on this book claim it has nothing new in it. I am not sure what book they were reading, but it wasn't this one. This book has a ton of great ideas, anecdotes, and superb stories and examples to illustrate his points. Reading and applying the advice in this book WILL build your network and help you grow your business.

4 out of 5 stars worth checking out   September 29, 2008
Worth reading if you're in need of some motivation from the perspective of the world of business. The book preaches the value of social networking and great ways to get started doing it. Like they say, 'it's not what you know, it's who you know,' and that seems to be the main theme behind Never Eat Alone.
