A Humble Reader
My apologies to everyone else who loved this book...I simply don't get why! Love to read, love golf, I drink a beer here and there - heck, I even have a little Irish blood in me. This book just fell so flat for me. I tried, really I tried. The premise was great, but the author seemed to be overly repetitive in descriptions and activities and short on actual course images. Picturing him hiking and battling with the nuances of Ireland, I would have enjoyed more depth about the actual courses. I'm not at all slamming the book or the author's efforts - this just didn't do it for me.

Mr C has done a fantastic job of writing Ireland. I could not put it down. Having played and been in Ireland several times he nails the description of the golf, the country and the people. The description of Old Head was the best. Loved it. Keep em coming!!!!!

I stumbled upon this book by accident but boy I am glad I did! It was one of the best golf books I have ever read. Tom Coyne takes us on an unforgettable journey that kept me turning pages as fast as I could! It made me laugh out loud, love the game even more than I already did, and prompted me to tell every one of my golfing friends that this is one they have to pick up!

Coyne is a great writer---amusing, descriptive, and it's about golf, Ireland, and Guiness! If you like this book, try Paper Tiger. The author immerses himself in golf for a year to try to get through Q school. I believe Paper Tiger was recommended by NYT as how I got onto him.

I was expecting something a little drier. Instead, I got stories that had me laughing out loud, the vicarious drinking of Guinness, otherwise known as Mother's Milk in my household and descriptions of golf courses that I know I have to see for myself. Well done!!
