Sorely Disappointed November 5, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am a devoted reader of House Beautiful. Its monthly arrival brightens my entire day. Past issues are neatly stored in special holders and referenced again and again. However, I am sorely disappointed in this book. When I buy a a book entitled "500 Makeovers", I expect before & afters, how-tos, and helpful hints, don't you?
This book has absolutely nothing to do with makeovers. Each page shows one finished, polished, professionally done room with a tip in the margin that may or may not have anything to do with the photo shown. These tips are so completely obvious (things like "mirrors can make a space feel larger", "lower light bulb wattage for coziness") that there's really no sense in reading any of the text in this book. There's not a before photo in sight here, nor any substantial hints to help the reader make over his or her own space.
The only way I'd recommend purchasing this book would be for the photos, but they felt more Traditional Home to me than House Beautiful. All in all, I'd say save your money.
